The Ultimate Zero-Waste Espresso Martini

The Ultimate Zero-Waste Espresso Martini

The Espresso Martini requires no introduction - a stalwart of the international cocktail scene which seemingly keeps going from strength to strength.

An after dinner sipper, a brunch favourite, home creation - you name it, the espresso martini is enjoyed pretty much whenever and wherever.

But what is the ultimate version of the much heralded cocktail? It’s a good question and we’re going to throw our hat into the ring.

Obviously it needs a zero waste, sustainable twist and this one doesn’t disappoint. Traditionally made using vodka, this riff uses rum instead to swap out a little bit of the usual crisp and bitterness with some added sweetness but it's as equally as balanced and it has a nutty twist.

And it goes a little something like this.

If you have some nearly empty nutella or peanut butter jars in the cupboard, which I imagine most probably do, then you’re already well on your way. We’re going to use it to infuse our golden aged rum.

To make it, fill the finished jar (with scraps of peanut butter / nutella on the inside of the jar) of either nutella or peanut butter - your choice or whatever you have in - with golden aged rum, shake and leave to infuse for 24 hours in a cool, dry place.

Once done, you’ll need to filter the rum using a coffee filter to make sure you’re left with a super smooth infused nutty rum.

Now you have our rum - it’s time to make some cocktails. Put all of the ingredients below into a shaker with ice and give a big shake.

How long? Till either your hands are freezing or you’ve done your shoulder in - preferably the former - and then double strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with 2 coffee beans because why not?

Now sit back and enjoy and maybe listen to one of our playlists? That’s our ultimate zero-waste espresso martini.
